Fromm, Zignature, and Orijen.

Hello readers, Michael here. I wanted to help out a little by putting together an article for the week on some of our foods in the store. I wanted to introduce you all to three of our favorite foods at The Wagging Tail; Fromm, Zignature, and Orijen.  If you are a regular shopper with us, you no doubt have some familiarity with these brands, but for those that aren’t this article is to help introduce you to some of our high quality manufacturers.

First out of the gate is Fromm Family Foods.  Here at The Wagging Tail, Fromm is one of our staple food brands.  If someone walks through our door, chances are that they either use, have used, or will fit somewhere inside Fromm’s architecture.  A family owned company for five generations, they have stayed true to their goal of maintaining a tradition of quiet innovation.  Fromm maintains four major categories for their dry foods, and a wide array of wet foods.  Quality and simplicity is ubiquitous with Fromm's lineup, allowing for easy transitions between their individual formulas and even between their food lines.  Fromm Classic and Fromm Gold are both chicken and rice based formulas, allowing for easy transition from most other major manufacturers, while Fromm Heartland is their grain free option, great for working dogs in need of a more lean build.  In addition, Fromm Four Star offers a wide array of both grain and grain free foods, all inspired by human recipes.  In part two I’ll be diving deeper into the ins and outs of Fromm’s lineup, so please look forward to our continuation.

Second, we come to Zignature.  If your pet has some of the more common food allergies, such as chicken or beef, Zignature is where we steer you.  Zignature in particular maintains an ideology of avoiding chicken and beef in any of its foods, and instead offers a wide array of fish and meat for protein sources.  From the more mundane offerings of lamb and turkey, to the exotic with kangaroo and catfish, Zignature is bound to have a food that suits your dog's needs.  Their foods come in both a dry and wet format, which makes it easy to spice up your pups pallet and diversify their food options. In addition, Zignatures dry foods now come coated in probiotics, to further help with digestion, especially in dogs that have sensitive stomachs.  I’ll bring more detailed explanations of Zignatures philosophy and their foods in the coming weeks.

Last but not least, our rising star brand at The Wagging Tail, Orijen.  Manufactured by Champion Pet Foods, Orijen is a rapidly growing brand with multiple different options ranging from dry to wet to even freeze dried options.  Orijen is a high protein food, marked around 40% protein by mass, as compared to the 20-30% that Fromm and Zignature carry, and each formula has multiple different sources.  Orijen holds to what they call a “feed the wolf” mentality, with smaller, more energy and meat dense meals with a high level of digestibility, rather than larger portion sizes that might typically be found in some of the larger volume manufacturers.  As with the others, there is far too much good to say about Orijen and far too little space for me to fit it all, and so I’ll have a follow up with more details on the ins and outs of them and their sister line, Acana.

A little bit of housekeeping before I leave you all, we have cats and kittens at the store looking for furever homes, so if you know of anyone looking for a companion with four paws and a tail, please send them our way.  We appreciate every last one of you, and we thank you for all the time you give us and all the business you bring us.  As always, please feel free to give us a call if you ever have any pet related questions or need consulting on your pets food.
